Every year we pick a very vaguely Christmas-related theme for our annual anthology. Then we invite our writers to subvert it. In this collection, they’ve certainly done that to the extent that we almost had a picture of cream crackers for the cover. Our theme this year is “crackers”. So, we have Christmas crackers, cream crackers, cracking dresses, a cracked antique and many, many other interpretations. We hope you will find this a cracking good read. Some fantastic writing was offered and the most of it was potentially publishable. We chose the pieces in this collection because they told a good story, had a strong voice and were imaginative in their interpretation of the theme. This anthology of literary fiction is so apt for the 21st Century.   This glittery collection of glit-er-ary tales will add some sparkle to your life. You will meet all kinds of interesting characters facing all kinds of interesting dilemmas. You will learn that all that gl...

RRP £6.00 This collection of prose and poetry takes the reader on a journey through many aspects of life and indeed offers you many ways of seeing. It makes the reader take another look. Ricks Vick’s mantra was, “Let the pen do the writing.” He had a love of people that manifested itself on every level, from the encouragement of a shy, new poet at one of his workshops to his record-breaking seven appearances as a writer at the prestigious Stroud Short Stories. Sadly Rick died before we finished preparing this collection for publication. He has left us an inspiring legacy.   ‘Badlands’ is a collection of flash fiction pieces, from drabbles of 100 words to longer pieces up to 1000 words. Many have been published on line and in anthologies, and short-listed or been placed in competitions. They have all been written during the last three years. The oldest pair being ‘Chestnuts for my Sweet’ and ‘A Guy for the Children’. Both written in the autumn. These short shorts ...

Oh, be careful what you wish for. One person’s good news might be someone else’s bad news. And if you do get what you wished for you might not be getting what you need. Or, if you’re slightly more fortunate, you may no longer have anything to grumble about. These stories challenge the notion of what is good news and yet leave us still a little optimistic. An amazing group of writers set the record straight in Bridge House’s anthology Good News….?     What does it mean to be gifted? Is this to do with a present being wrapped up and handed to another?   Does one person sacrifice something to help someone else? Or is to do with having a certain talent? Is that gift always welcome? Does the protagonist make the most of what has been gifted to them?   All of those scenarios exist in these stories and there are other interpretations as well of the theme “gifted”. Gifted is Bridge House’s 2023 anthology which includes stories by both some of the gifte...
