A huge number of people have been involved in putting this book together and it is impossible to mention them all by name. But I do want to thank Born Free for their tremendous help in collating all the facts and approving all the stories and organisations we have approached, particularly Lauren Smith for putting up with my continual bombardment of emails. And of course to Virginia McKenna for the foreword and for being so supportive of our efforts.
Everyone remembers what they were doing when the shocking news broke: when Kennedy was shot, when Princess Diana died and when the first plane crashed into the World Trade Centre on 9/11. Yet everyday lives continued with their own ups and downs. This collection shows us some of those possible stories and how they are gently connected with the day's world shattering event. A percentage of the author royalties will be donated to International Rescue Training Centre Wales (IRTCW), who provide search and rescue dogs to the Emergency services.
"Transforming Being" is the theme of the 2019 Waterloo Festival Writing Competition. It is also the title of the e-book, which contains the fifteen winning entries. We chose these because they tell a good story, have a strong voice, and are imaginative in their interpretation of the theme. The writers present us with characters that are believable and rounded. The stories all contain a pleasing narrative balance.
Entrants were asked to produce a short story or a monologue. Style is diverse and each story is completely different from the others. Delve inside for a rela treat.
